Live cattle futures were mixed on Friday from 7.5 cents higher to 80 cents lower. The October contract posted a weekly gain of $3.05, up 2.93%. Feeders were down more than $2 in most contracts on Friday, but still managed to end the week $1.85 higher. The CME Feeder Cattle Index was up 94 cents to $121.84. Wholesale prices were higher on Friday with choice up $1.57 and select up $1.35. Choice gained $3.33 and select was up $3.43 from Friday to Friday. Cash cattle trade picked up on Friday in TX, KS and NE mostly at $105, and dressed sales were reported at $164. October cattle futures expire on October 31. The weekly COT report showed managed money with a net long position that was 28.5% larger than a week earlier with the net position as of Tuesday's close at 34,994 contracts. Weekly slaughter including Saturday estimates is 613,000 head, 11,000 head larger than last week, and 58,000 head larger than the same period a year ago.
