Soybean futures settled 9 to 14 cents higher, with a huge boost from soybean oil. There were rumors of a large Chinese purchase of Brazilian soy oil. The oil rally added more than 11 cents per bushel to the value of beans, with meal up a modest $1.10/ton. USDA Export Inspections for the week ending 4/30 were 172,066 MT. That was only 55% of previous week. YTD inspections are running nearly 11% (166 mbu) ahead of last year. USDA reported 13% of the soybean crop planted, vs. 5% last year at this time. The 5 year average, which is adjusted by day of the week, is 9%.
