Jan WTI crude oil this morning is down -95 cents (-1.70%) and Jan gasoline is down -0.0140 (-0.91%). Jan crude and Jan gasoline prices Tuesday posted new 5-1/2 year lows but recovered and settled mixed. Closes: CLF5 +0.02 (+0.04%), RBF5 -0.0393 (-2.49%). Supportive factors included (1) the slide in the dollar index to a 2-week low, and (2) expectations for weekly EIA crude stockpiles on Wednesday to fall -2.65 million bbl. The main bearish factor centers on signs of ample global crude supplies amid expectations that OPEC will refrain from cutting production.
