Precious metals prices this morning are mixed: GCZ4 -4.4 (-0.36%), SIZ4 -0.077 (-0.42%), HGZ4 +0.003 (+0.08%). Metals prices on Thursday closed lower with Dec gold at an 8-1/4 month low and Dec silver at a 14-1/2 month low. Bearish factors included (1) the stronger dollar, and (2) concern that the housing markets in the U.S and China are sputtering after U.S. Aug housing starts and building permits showed sharp declines and after China Aug new-home prices fell in 68 of 70 cities tracked by the government, the most on record.
